British woman beaten to death on Greek holiday island

A BRITISH man was arrested on the Greek holiday isle of Crete on suspicion of beating his 21-year-old girlfriend to death.

Greek police said the 22-year-old man was being held after the victim died of her injuries on Monda, Sky News reported.

She was admitted to a hospital in the popular Malia holiday resort the day before with severe abdominal injuries.

A spokeswoman from Britain’s Foreign Office said: “We can confirm that a British national died in Crete. We understand that a British national was detained on Sunday.”

The unnamed man is facing charges of “causing fatal bodily injury.”

Greek police said the woman suffered ruptured internal organs, “evidently caused by the use of physical violence.”

She underwent surgery but died in the hospital’s intensive care unit, officials said.
