Baby ‘thrown from French apartment block

A TWO-week-old baby girl has died after being thrown from the eighth floor of an apartment building in southern France allegedly by her mother, firefighters and officials say.

“There is every reason to think that this infant was thrown through the window by her mother. The child was killed outright,” said Toulouse public prosecutor Michel Valet after visiting the scene.

At the time of the incident, the baby’s 34-year-old mother was alone with her in the apartment, he said.

Police led away two women after the incident. The women covered their heads with white towels as they left the building and were taken to a car.

“Around 7.30pm somebody threw an infant from the eighth floor of the building. It was a member of the family; the baby is dead,” a spokesman for the firemen said.

A member of the child’s family called the firemen, he added.
