Alleged candy killer arrested

THE suspected candy bar killer who gunned down a gas station attendant after grabbing a Snickers returned to the crime scene two days later – only to flee after spotting his face on a wanted poster, the New York Post reported today.

Anthony Bayne, 41, who was arrested by police on Wednesday, sauntered into the Baychester Shell in the Bronx on Oct. 30, not even 48 hours after he allegedly killed clerk and beloved dad of two Lamine Diop, 35.

“He came in, saw the poster [taped to the counter] and just ran off,” station owner David Zaher said. “I don’t think he realized he murdered someone.”

He said the worker on duty thought the man’s behavior was bizarre and told his boss.

When the owner checked surveillance footage, he recognized Bayne as the man who allegedly killed Diop and called the police.

Police said they caught Bayne based on anonymous tips after the NYPD released his surveillance video photo from the shooting to media outlets.
