5 hostages released in US bank robbery

TEXAS – Police have apprehended one of the two masked people who took hostages while trying to rob a suburban Houston bank, but the other remains inside with two hostages.

Pearland Police Lt. Onesmio Lopez said authorities are negotiating with the second suspect inside the Chase Bank branch. Five hostages have been released unharmed.

Two armed people entered the bank about 11:30 a.m. local time, Lopez said they struck and injured the manager when he refused to open the vault. The manager is one of the hostages who were released, he said.

Businesses nearby were on lockdown as police surrounded the building and sealed off streets.
