Toronto teacher faces sexual assault charges

A teacher from a North York middle school has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference following allegations involving a student.

In a letter addressed to parents, Doug Loosemore, the principal of Don Mills Middle School, said that one of his teachers, 38-year-old Chi Cuong Hang of Toronto, was arrested Thursday morning.

“As of today and pending outcome of this matter, Chi Hang will not be at Don Mills MS and a qualified teacher has been retained,” said Loosemore.

Police are saying the charges stem from two separate incidents that took place in April and May, when the single victim was at school and under the supervision of his teacher.

Hang is charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference.

Hang teaches grade seven students, according to the school’s Web site.

A meeting has been arranged for parents to ask the school board and police questions today at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s library.

This is the second time a Toronto District School Board teacher has been charged with a sex crime in the last two days.

Stewart Adams, a teacher at Kingsview Village Junior School, was arrested Wednesday and faces several child pornography charges.
