Rodney James Falls dead within minutes, court hears

A SUNSHINE Coast man shot in the head after his wife cooked him curried prawns laced with sleeping tablets most likely died “within minutes”, a court has heard.

Susan Falls, 42, has pleaded not guilty to murdering her husband of 20 years, Rodney James Falls, on May 25, 2006, at their Caloundra home on the Sunshine Coast.

Christopher Anthony Cummings-Creed, 25, Anthony James Hoare, 42 and Bradley James Coupe, 30, have also pleaded not guilty to a charge of being accessary after the fact to murder. The court has heard Mr Falls was shot twice in the head at point blank range, once through the left temple, and another under jaw and into the skull.

The court has heard that Falls previously told police her husband continued to breathe for up to two hours after the first gunshot wound, which resulted in her smothering him to death.  The Queensland Supreme Court trial on Wednesday heard from forensic pathologist Alex Olumbe, who found quantities of the sleeping drugs diazepam and temazepam in Mr Falls’ body when he performed the autopsy.
