FAIRFIELD, Calif.—Authorities say a Northern California mother stabbed her twin 3-year-old daughters to death before attempting to take her own life and setting fire to her apartment.
Firefighters found the children’s bodies around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at the apartment after responding to reports of a fire and extinguishing the blaze.
Police say the mother, whose name has not been released, was also inside the apartment with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds. She was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with non-life-threatening injuries.
