THE father of two young British children found dead at a Spanish hotel yesterday, appeared in court in the UK today on unrelated child sex charges.
Martin Smith, aged 45, from North Shields in northeastern England was stopped by the Spanish Civil Guard in Barcelona on Friday May 7 and detained on an international arrest warrant when checks revealed he was on the UK’s most wanted list.
The alleged sex offender reportedly jumped bail in 2008 while facing 13 charges of sexual offences including the rape of a girl under 16 between February 1 2001 and April 29 2005, gross indecency with a girl under the age of 16 between April 30 1995 and February 1 2001, indecent assault of a girl under 16 and attempted rape of a girl under 16 between April 30 1997 and February 1 2001.
