Crocodiles not yet tested

TESTS to find out whether or not the two crocodiles found in Tivoli Gardens last week were fed humans, have still not been done.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds yesterday said he is unable to say if the crocs’ stomach contains human remains. “I am sure that if tests were done I would have been informed,” ACP Hinds said. “I am not sure when it will take place.”

Last week police theorised that the two reptiles found caged in a section of Tivoli Gardens could have been used by thugs in the community in carrying out their ‘jungle justice’ by feeding them humans who may have committed an offence.

The National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) which is responsible for picking up the reptiles and returning them to their natural habitat, also stated that no testing of the crocodiles have been done.

The crocs are only a small part of the findings in Tivoli Gardens suspected to have been used in carrying out punishment within the community.

Last week, security forces discovered the existence of shallow graves — one with the body of a person who was buried standing — and a suspected torture chamber.
