The 6 year old and her father were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
A family in Downey got a rude awakening early Friday morning when an out-of-control Jeep ended up inside their home.
The driver slammed into a house at Brookshire Avenue and Stewart and Gray Road between 1:45 and 2:00 a.m.
The Jeep was speeding south on Brookshire, police said, and the driver lost control as he passed Stewart and Gray Road. The vehicle missed a traffic signal, a utility pole and a couple of trees and plowed directly into the front bedroom of a 6-year-old girl.
The impact pushed the little girl’s bed to the other side of the room and pinned her, according to firefighters. Both the girl and her father were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The mother was already at the hospital, having just given birth to the couple’s second child last night. The Jeep driver tried to run, but some neighbors heard the crash, woke up and chased the man. They caught him and held him for police. He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, Downey police said. His name was not immediately available.
A passenger in the Jeep was trapped and firefighters got him out of the vehicle.
By 3:20 a.m., the Jeep had been removed from the house, and firefighters were using lumbar to shore up the front of the home so the occupants could return.
