Irrespective of what one may call these attires that concealed most of the individual that wear them, there is certainly a concerted effort across Europe to see the end of these garments
- Belgium – ban the ‘burka saying that they are the first country to break through the chains that has kept countless women enslaved. for Belgium to make such a claim would mean that a lot of women wearing these attire would have to be complaining to the authority that they feel enslaved wearing these garments.
- France – recently voted to ban the ‘burka’ condemning the full Islamic veil is an “affront to the nation’s values of dignity and equality”.
- Barcelona – to ban Islamic veils in some public places, the ban designed to include head-wear that hindered identification.
- Italy – Novara – police stopped a woman wearing an Islamic veil and she was made to pay 500 Euro. Novara mayor said the law was meant to deter women from covering themselves with the veil in public.
- England – Conservative Philip Hollobone has launched a bid to ban Muslim women from wearing the ‘burka, and have even gone as far as to say that he will not hold meetings with his constituents that are wearing the veil.
It would not have taken the brains of Einstein, to know that once the issue of the ‘burka, veil or hijab was fueling such debate in Europe, and some of the Europeans country have taken steps to remedy this situation, that the UK would not be far behind.
The problem for me is whether this ban, or potential banning of these garments have infringed human rights. Whether Muslim women wear these attire for religious reasons or the fact that they are force to don these garments is still an issue that needs to be debate.
To me, western, liberal female the wearing of these garment make women look to be subservient to male and I could never understand it, but I was not born into that religion. As an outsiders I can only give my opinion, but it would be interesting to hear comments from women who have to wear the veil, burka, hijab, what are there views about the bans that are in some countries and the potential ban that could be in the UK.
