Bomb threat forces British plane to land in Greece

ATHENS, GREECE—Greek fighter jets were scrambled Monday to escort a British passenger plane to Athens airport after it received a bomb threat while on its way from Britain to Egypt.

Greece’s Air Force said two F-16 jets and a Super Puma helicopter escorted the plane to Athens International Airport, where it landed without incident.

The plane, from the holiday company Thomson, was carrying 213 passengers and crew from Bristol to Sharm el-Sheikh, the Athens airport said. It landed in Athens shortly before 3 p.m.

Greek state TV said the bomb threat was made in a telephone call to Thomson in Britain.
