Blasts kill 57 across Baghdad

IRAQI hospital and police officials say 10 blasts ripping through Baghdad’s Shiite neighbourhoods have killed at least 57 people.

The blasts took place in at least eight neighbourhoods across the city overnight.

Officials said more than 250 people were injured by the bombings, which involved a combination of car bombs, roadside bombs and mortars.

The blasts come just two days after gunmen in Baghdad held a Christian congregation hostage in a siege that ended with 58 people dead.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.
