She usually lives a relatively quiet life out of the spotlight. But after a very public announcement of her pregnancy to the world, Alanis Morissette has suddenly hit the headlines again.
The mother-to-be and singer was snapped leaving the Chelsea Lately studios in West LA where she was promoting her guest-starring role in the TV show Weeds. Despite being five months advanced, just a shadow of a bump was visible beneath her casual outfit of black dress, cardigan and flip-flops. Still in the glamorous make-up and blow-dry from filming, the glowing mother-to-be looked the picture of health.
The 36-year-old announced her news in an unconventional way, listing it as the final item in a ’25 Things You Don’t Know About Me’ feature in Us magazine. No other details were given at the time, but her interview with Chelsea Handler has revealed plenty of juicy details. The Canadian revealed that the news has come as something of a shock. “I went to the doctor and he said “Well this looks like the scan of a pregnant lady,” Alanis said. Handler asked, “So you obviously went to the doctor because you thought you were pregnant?” “No, actually I thought I wasn’t,” the You Oughta Know singer said. “But I mentioned in passing that I was a bit late, so he said “Well, let’s just take a quick look”. The TV host joked, “So you married a rapper recently and it doesn’t take them long to impregnate women.” Alanis laughed, “That’s right. Immediately actually.” Alanis was previously engaged to actor Ryan Reynolds, but they separated in 2007 after four years together. He is now married to Scarlett Johansson.
