A Kingston hairdresser accused of killing the father of her children after he ended their relationship and married another woman, was yesterday denied bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The 28-year-old accused, Simone Fowler, of Mahoe Drive, Kingston 11, is charged with the June 27 murder of Geovani Francis, who fathered her three children.
According to court documents, on the day in question at about 8:30 pm, the accused and Francis had a dispute on Mahoe Drive when Fowler allegedly used a knife to stab Francis in his chest. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died.
The prosecution said that the dispute stemmed from an ongoing conflict that the accused had with Francis and his wife since the marriage.
It is alleged that Fowler would often contact Francis’ wife by telephone and verbally abuse her, often using expletives.
Attorney Diane Jobson, who sought bail for Fowler who was not present in court, told Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that her client acted in self-defence. She said her client was being attacked by Francis when she pulled a knife at him and it caught him in the chest.
She also denied allegations that the dispute was as a result of Francis’ marriage. In fact she told the court that her client had no problem with the marriage and was willing to share Francis.
The magistrate denied Fowler bail as the post-mortem report was outstanding. She was then remanded into custody until August 9.
