State of emergency for Kingston and St Andrew

A state of emergency is to be imposed in Kingston and St Andrew at 6pm today as as the instability of the capital continues with criminals seeking to prevent the arrest of alleged crime lord Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

At the same time, the Hannah Town police station in west Kingston, is now on fire after being attacked by armed thugs earlier this afternoon.

Black plumes of smoke can be seen going up from the vicinity of the police station into the rainy skies.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News understands that persons have been stealing items from the station. Our reporters also say that the policeman, who was shot this morning, is in a stable condition.

Meanwhile men with high-powered rifles have been manning roadblocks on Spanish Town Road. Residents from neighbouring communities Rema and Trench Town are tentatively watching the events unfold in what is still a very tense environment.
