Residents protest police killing of mom of 5

Angry Waterford residents blocked several roads in the community and screamed for justice this morning, after police shot a woman in the community.

WATERFORD residents are now in mourning following the shooting death of community member Josephine Brown by the police about midnight last night.

Brown, 45, was at a party in the community, when she was struck by bullets fired into the venue by officers, the residents said.

The residents said her body was then taken away by the cops and was later identified by relatives at the Spanish Town morgue.

Angry residents blocked several roads in he community and screamed for justice this morning.

“Mi never know how police wicked, ah now me see it,” one female protester said. “How dem fi fire shot inna the crowded place and kill off the woman?”

Brown died leaving five children.

The CCN, meanwhile, said Brown was shot during an exchange of gunfire between the police and gunmen.

The police said at about 11:20 pm, the lawmen went to Angelica Way in search of murder suspect ‘Mario’, who was seen in the area.

“On their approach, a group of gunmen including the suspect was seen. The gunmen immediately opened fire at the officers. The fire was returned and the men ran leaving behind an AK 47 rifle with 11 cartridges and a Ranger shotgun with one 12-gauge cartridge.  After the shooting, Brown, who was at a premises in the community, was found suffering with gunshot wounds. She was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where she died.”

The police said a top level investigation led by the BSI has commenced.
