The Police Inspectorate in Jamaica has set up an office in Tivoli Gardens to allow residents an opportunity to make any complaints they may have against members of the constabulary force.
The decision to establish the office follows an operation by the security forces in the community last week.
The police have reported that 73 civilians were killed, and 36 firearms and more than nine thousand rounds of ammunition recovered.
Police Commissioner, Owen Ellington, along with the Jamaica Defence Force Chief of Staff, Major General Stewart Saunders, toured the community yesterday to view the aftermath of the security forces’ operation.
“Residents may also obtain authorisation for travel during curfew hours at the office located at the community centre,” said Commissioner Ellington.
Major General Saunders, who spoke with JIS News, said yesterday’s tour was intended to canvass the views of citizens and direct them to the facilities put in place, through which they can register grouses and receive assistance.
An office of the Public Defender has also been set up at the community centre to hear complaints from aggrieved residents.
Since its establishment on Friday, 200 residents have so far filed complaints.
