NEW YORK, USA — Two Jamaican organisations here have paid tribute to the late parliamentarian and Cabinet minister Horace Clarke, who died from a stroke on the weekend.
Both the Jamaica Progressive League and the Jamaica National Movement (JNM) — affiliates of the opposition People’s National Party to which Clarke belonged — have lauded his dedicated service to the people of Jamaica, and his native St Mary, in particular.
Horace Thomas, who heads the JNM, described Clarke as “one of the best ministers of mining and energy”. He said the fact that Clarke served as a Cabinet minister in three different administrations, was testimony to “his hard work and quality service which are missing in some of our politicians at this time”.
And the JPL’s Sadie Campbell said Clarke’s passing “has left a void in quality representation for the people of rural Jamaica”.
She said the fact the veteran legislator had never lost an election, was a reflection of the quality of what he provided for his constituents, who she said meant a lot to him.
Campbell described Clarke as a great motivator, who was never afraid to “roll up his sleeves” to get the work done.
Clarke died minutes after 11 Saturday night at the Andrews Memorial Hospital in Kingston, where he was admitted after suffering a first stroke on July 2.
He would have turned 78 on July 17.
