DISGRACED film star Mel Gibson offered the mother of his love child $20 million to settle their bitter custody dispute before tapes of his explosive rants were revealed.
But his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva rejected the offer because she would have to share custody of their eight-month-old daughter Lucia, celebrity gossip website RadarOnline.com reported.
A source told the website: “Mel wanted Oksana to sign an agreement that would have meant Lucia spends 80 percent of her time with her mother and the remaining 20 percent with her father. “Over time, it could have increased to 50-50.”
The source added: “Mel was offering a deal that would have landed Oksana almost $20 million over her lifetime, but despite the inducement, she couldn’t bring herself to sign the final agreement. “Oksana thought that Lucia spending even 20 percent of her time with Mel was too much – and after the incident on January 6, she became convinced Mel was not fit to be alone with her.”
Gibson, who has a billion-dollar fortune, said in tapes released publicly that he punched Grigorieva while she was holding their daughter on January 6, because she “f***ing deserved it.” In the latest tape Gibson also said: “You need a f***ing bat in the side of the head.” He also told her: “I’ll put you in the f***ing rose garden.”
News of the settlement offer comes as sources said Gibson’s recorded rants destroyed any chance of him making a Hollywood comeback. “No one will touch him with a 10-foot pole,” a source told The Hollywood Reporter.
