New faces for G20 ‘most wanted list’

Police released these photos of suspects wanted for crimes allegedly committed during the G20 summit.

Toronto police have added five new faces to their photographic list of suspects wanted for crimes allegedly committed during the G20 summit.

The new images released Friday are of suspects police believe to be from the GTA or surrounding area, Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone told a news conference at police headquarters.

While investigators have information that some suspects are from outside Ontario, they believe most of the suspects are local, Carbone said.  “I’m very confident that we will track these people down,” he added.

Investigators are still waiting for additional data that is being used to identify some people through the use of facial-recognition technology, provided from the Canadian Banking Association. But in the mean time, Carbone is asking the public for help.

This is the fourth time in the last month that the investigative unit has made such an appeal.  So far, 17 people have been identified and arrested since police launched the G20 most wanted campaign. One of the charged is a young offender. In total, the accused face 41 criminal code charges.

Three of the arrests came this week.

Ryan Rainville, 22, of Waterloo, faces charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief over $5,000 and intimidation of a justice system member by violence.  Samuel Malony-Lee, 23, of Toronto, is charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.  Steven Caswell, 30, of Waterloo, was charged with mischief over $5,000.

To date, police say they have 20,000 images provided by the public, which were either dropped to local police stations on DVDs or CDs, emailed or taken surveillance cameras and police operatives in the crowd.
