NATO troops today destroyed more than 16,000 pounds (7700kg) of illegal narcotics, worth more than $US134 million, seized in operations throughout Afghanistan’s Helmand province over the last few weeks.
US Marines and Afghan National Security Forces seized the illegal drugs from traffickers located in southern Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force said.
The stash of opium, hashish, morphine and heroin was burned in accordance with Afghan legal procedures.
A seizure earlier this week brought the total amount of illegal narcotics destroyed in the Helmand province over the last five days to more than 28,000 pounds (13,000kg).
