By Sandrea: MY GRIPE
I am so angry, of all the griping that I have done over the last couple of months, this story annoyed me so much, I really dislike organisation, Government or individuals that try to stifle creativity.
The imprisoning, for 1 year, and 30 years writing ban imposed on journalist Jila Baniyaghoob, by Iran makes me wonder what are these so-called Islamic countries afraid of.
Don’ t these countries know that you cannot stifle freedom of speech and if they, as they claim a progressive nation, then they surely have a funny way of showing it.
It seems to me that having to resort to sending this journalist to prison, and also imprison her husband for 5 years, for as they claim security charges over his articles in reformist newspapers, is so disgusting.
I cannot imagine that what would happen to individuals if we sere subjected to that kind of censorship, in the UK, US, Canada, just to name a few countries.
Journalist, constantly criticise, authority, they are the backbone in letting the public know what is going in the country, without journalist we would be kept so much in the dark as to what is going on around us.
For Iran to be so afraid of the reports that this journalist write, to charge her with “propaganda against the Islamic regime over her reports on last year’s disputed presidential election and the protests which followed the official results, the Kaleme.com website of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi said”. It is my personal belief that there must have been some truth to the report and that is why the Iranian authority took such a draconian step.
Iran needs to understand that you cannot stifle creative ability, you may be able to imprison their bodies but you cannot imprison their minds, and sooner rather than later the rest of it’s people will recognised this fact.
Islam and Islamic views, are very much distrusted in western society, as some of their ideologies are seen as stupid, so it will not make non-Islamic people understand any better the ways or systems of this religious group, when idiotic decision like the one taken to imprison Jila Baniyaghoob is made.
Grow-up Iran, this is the 21st century and if you find it so hard to take criticism in that you have to send people to prison for their written words, then you really believe that we are going to trust you with nuclear weapons, hell – no.
