As Iran President Ahmadinejad rant and rave about the UN sanctions and his criticism of President Barrack Obama, the Iranian President needs to understand that Western society cannot trust Iran, and there lies the paradox.
How can one trust a nation that imprisoned his citizens for speaking about things that we in the west take for granted.
Irrespective, of the manner in which our regimes behave whether it is the Prime Minister or President, we as citizen, can criticise them without fear of being put in prison and that is the making of democracy.
In order for Iran to be trusted, their old draconian laws must go, they have to demonstrate to the world that they are a civilised nation and as such they can be trusted.
I would not sleep very well if I know that Iran was in position of weapons of mass destruction, because like ‘pandora box’ once you open it and let loose the demon, there is no way in which to put that demon back in the box.
Although, Iran state that they only need nuclear material to use for domestic consumption, the fact that nuclear bombs can be built from the material that they need is a very scary thought and one that I would rather not see happen.
I do not disagree with President Ahmadinejad, that has the leader of the Iranian people he has to ensure that he do everything in his power to ensure that the people of Iran are looked after in the best possible way. But, the President ought to realise that their is a fundamental trust issue at stake and the the fact that nuclear bombs can wipe out and destroyed the world is an issue that we cannot take lightly.
I am not saying that President Ahmadinejad has any intentions of using the material for is nuclear programme in any sinister way, but he ought to understand our fears and they are genuine one, until he understand that, he will continue to blame others for the way in which Iran is treated. I sincerely hope a day will come when nuclear material can be used purely for domestic consumptions, and that the countries that will get hold of this material are trustworthy and ones that will not give us cause for concern, until that day we have to be very cautious in our approach, especially in the climate of terror and terrorism that we live in.
