Detainee threatens to jump off building

Relatives of Derron Bartlett (right) attempt to talk him out of jumping from the roof of a shed at the Mobile Reserve Headquarters in Kingston, yesterday. Bartlett, who hails from Oxford Street in West Kingston, threatened to take his life after he escaped custody while being transferred from a processing centre at the facility.

He was among the more than 500 persons detained during an incursion of Tivoli Gardens by members of the security forces on Monday. “He stripped himself partially and then used some painting to rub all over himself,” said Assistant Police Commissioner Leon Rose.

He was later retrained and taken from the roof, following which he was handed over to members of his family.
