Cops: Mom tells son to run away after watching him fatally stab his dad

TRACY — Police arrested a 22-year-old man Saturday suspected of attacking and fatally stabbing his father in front of family members, a police spokesman said.

Mitchell Barron, 22, was outside his home on the 1700 block of Thicket Court around 11:15 p.m. Friday with his sister, mother and father, Jose Barron, 42. According to Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman, the Barrons run a family cleaning business and had just finished work for the night.

As the Barron family exited the car, Mitchell Barron rounded the side of the vehicle, yelled at his father and stabbed him twice with a knife, Sheneman said.

Mitchell Barron’s mother immediately told her son to run, the sergeant said.

“She yelled, ‘Get away,’ and that’s the last anyone saw of him for a little bit,” Sheneman said.

Mitchell Barron’s mother then drove her husband to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. Jose Barron was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Mitchell Barron’s sister remained at the house and called police. Mitchell Barron was arrested several hours later in Hayward and later taken to the Tracy Police Department for questioning.

Sheneman said after speaking with Barron investigators still do not know what provoked him to attack his father.

This is Tracy’s first homicide of the year.
