FORTY-second President of the United States Bill Clinton will be in Kingston to make a speech on the topic ‘Embracing our common humanity’ tonight at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

Clinton is scheduled to speak at 9:00 pm.

This is not his first visit to the island having previously vacationed here with his wife Hilary at Chris Blackwell’s Goldeneye Resort in St Mary. Mrs Clinton visited the island earlier this year.

Any major event, or visit of an international figure to our city is seen as testament that Kingston is an attractive destination,” said Director of Tourism John Lynch. “The fact that these international bodies host their functions here, and world renowned persons are visiting and participating in activities here is something that we are very happy about. It says to the world that Kingston is a vibrant and happening place which is able to satisfy the needs of a discerning public.”

Clinton’s brief visit to Kingston is part of regional trip in support of the Clinton Global Initiatives.

After leaving the White House, Clinton established the William J Clinton Foundation with the mission to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence.

Today the foundation has staff and volunteers around the world working to improve lives through several initiatives, including the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (now the Clinton Health Access Initiative, a separate non-profit organisation) which is helping two million people living with HIV/AIDS access lifesaving drugs. Other initiatives are applying a business-oriented approach worldwide to fight climate change and develop sustainable economic growth in Africa and Latin America.

The public lecture is presented by Whisky Productions, with the support of Digicel, Scotiabank and Supreme Ventures Limited.
