US Idol winner in hospital afer overdose

AMERICAN Idol winner Fantasia Barrino was admitted to hospital in North Carolina yesterday for an overdose of medication.

Barrino was taken to a Charlotte area hospital at 8.55pm Monday night (local time), WCNC-TV reported.

Her condition was not life-threatening and it was not known whether the overdose was accidental or intentional, sources said.

The singer made headlines recently when she hit back at claims from a woman who said Barrino had had an affair with the woman’s husband. Paula Cook also claimed her husband and Barrino “at times recorded their illicit sexual activity”.

Ms Cook’s claims were in court documents filed last week as she seeks custody of her children from her estranged husband Antwaun.

Berrino’s manager, Brian Dickens, refuted the allegations.

“Fantasia will weather this storm with the dignity and grace that she has exemplified throughout a life in which she has repeatedly overcome obstacles and challenges. Fantasia’s faith in God, herself and family remain as strong as ever,” he said.

Rumours of the affair have been circulating for months, but Barrino had always denied them, according to the gossip website TMZ.

Barrino – who became a mother aged 16 with the arrival of daughter Zion Quari Barrino, now aged nine – is a Grammy nominee and actress in the musical The Color Purple.
