Paralysed man attacked outside hospital

A MAN in a wheelchair has been randomly attacked and beaten while waiting outside a hospital in Manchester, northern England.

The 40-year-old victim, who is paralysed from the waist down, was with his girlfriend by the emergency room entrance of North Manchester General Hospital when a man walked over to him, punched him repeatedly in the face, knocked him out of the wheelchair and kicked him while he was on the ground.

Another man, who initially told his friend to leave the victim alone, joined in the beating by picking up the victim’s wheelchair and throwing it at him. Both men then ran away.

“This was a shocking attack on a vulnerable man,” said PC Vicky Hadfield.

“I seriously have to question the mentality of someone who can pick on a man in a wheelchair. Only complete cowards start fights with people who cannot fight back.”

Both men are at large. Police described the instigator of the attack as white with reddish-colored hair, in his mid-40s and heavily built.

The second man was said to be in his late 20s or early 30s, tall and “scrawny” with black hair.
