Addict jailed for killing woman who tried to stop him stealing car

A HEROIN addict was jailed indefinitely killing a woman who tried to stop him from stealing her beloved sports car.

Lynda Hankey tried to prevent Shaun Higgins from driving off in her MG car by standing in his path but he drove straight at her, flinging her “into the air like a rag doll”.

He then drove off, leaving her fatally injured in the road outside her house in Wigan, northern England.

Hankey, a mother of two adult sons, died in the hospital.

The incident was witnessed by her female partner, Jamie Hudson, and Hudson’s five-year-old son.

Higgins was sentenced after he admitted manslaughter, aggravated vehicle taking and causing death by dangerous driving while disqualified from driving.

The 24-year-old showed no emotion as Judge Gerald Clifton told him he would be jailed indefinitely, with a minimum of six years.

Judge Clifton said Higgins was a danger to the public and an indeterminate sentence was necessary.

“You are, and for the foreseeable future will be, a dangerous cocktail of risk,” he said.
