Three shot dead at California warehouse party

THREE people were shot dead and three more injured at a warehouse party in the US state of California, when up to 400 people converged on the event after seeing promotions on the internet.

Police Sergeant Doug Calcagno said at least two gunmen fled after opening fire on people as they left the warehouse party about 1:15am local time, but that no arrests had been made, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Family members and friends identified the deceased victims as Lanisha Worthington, 16, Shanice Kiel, 19, and Joshua Alford, 23. Mr Calcagno said three others were taken to a local San Francisco Bay Area hospital, also suffering gunshot injuries.

Police said the unlicensed party, where attendees paid $10 to $20 admission, was advertised on social-networking sites, including Facebook.

Roger Kiel told KGO-TV his 19-year-old daughter Shanice borrowed his car to take six of her friends to the party.

“I’m devastated,” Mr Kiel said.

“I’m looking at the car, with bullet holes in my windshield where I sit, so I know my daughter suffered a horrible death.”
