THE POLICEMAN who allegedly shot and killed his 35-year-old girlfriend in November 2006 before attempting to kill himself is to undergo psychiatric treatment before he returns to court on July 5.
He is 54-year-old Detective Sergeant Alderman Doran, who has been in custody since he was released from hospital in December 2006.
It has been reported that on November 21, 2006, the cop accompanied his girlfriend, Rosemarie Gray, and her four-year-old son to a school in the Corporate Area. Shortly after the boy ran off to his class, it is alleged that Doran and Gray got involved in a heated argument. Explosions were heard and Gray was fatally shot, while Doran was found with a bullet wound to the neck.
Under investigation
Prior to the shooting incident, Doran was being investigated by the Centre For Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse in connection with an alleged case of carnal abuse involving a relative of the deceased.
When the murder case came up for trial this week in the Home Circuit Court, defence lawyers Gayle Nelson and Peter Champagnie told Senior Puisne Judge Gloria Smith that they were asking for time to have Doran examined by a psychiatrist.
