Militants kill six Afghan police officers

SIX Afghan police officers have been killed as armed militants attacked their checkpoint in the central province of Ghazni, sparking gunbattles, a security official says.

“The attack started at around 7am (12:30 AEST) and six police officers were killed during a gunfight with the attackers,” Sayed Amir Shah, the head of Afghanistan’s intelligence agency in Ghazni province, said.
“The gunfire is still ongoing,” Shah said.
A spokesman for the interior ministry in Kabul said that he was “aware of an incident” in Ghazni and that the department was “working to get an accurate toll about the casualties”.
