LA – Robbie Williams marries soapie star Ayda Field

BRITISH pop star Robbie Williams has defied pre-wedding predictions by marrying his American fiancee Ayda Field in his own house, Sky News revealed citing a British newspaper report.

The 36-year-old singer was expected to ferry the guests to Santa Catalina, an island 22 miles off Los Angeles, for the nuptials.

Instead, the star turned much closer to home and wed Field, 31, in the grounds of his Beverly Hills mansion at 5:00pm (local time) Saturday.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the event had been meticulously planned by his own mother, Jan, including a ban on alcohol.

The 69-year-old oversaw the final preparations with flowers adorning marquees in the mansion’s garden, the paper said.

Jonathan Wilkes is reported to have delivered his best man’s speech to 25 friends and family.

They are said to have included American actress Claire Danes and her husband, British actor Hugh Dancy, who hails from Williams’ hometown, Stoke-on-Trent.

The newlyweds are set to honeymoon in Los Cabos in Mexico, the paper reported.

People magazine also reported that the couple had wed with a source saying: “The ceremony was very beautiful and romantic.”

During the 30 minute ceremony the bride wore a white dress with her hair pined up, with Williams wore a black tuxedo, People reported.

British tabloid News of the World quoted the singer’s father as saying: “At last, Rob is happy. That’s what you want for your kids and this is the happiest I’ve seen him.”

Williams, who first rose to fame as part of the pop group Take That, has had public battles with alcohol and substance abuse throughout his life.

He met Field, who first rose to fame on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives, in 2006 and had been living with him since 2009.
