Jamaica makes arrest in cargo flight threat

KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaican police have arrested an airport worker for making a hoax bomb threat that temporarily halted air cargo shipments to the United States.

A Jamaica Constabulary Force statement says 46-year-old David Bernard is suspected of calling authorities to falsely warn that another worker was planning to put explosives on an American Airlines plane.

Police say the hoax forced a two-day suspension of cargo shipments and other security measures. Shipments to Canada and the Bahamas were also briefly halted.

Bernard is a restaurant supervisor at the airport. Police say he apparently had a vendetta against the other worker.

Bernard was charged Friday with offenses that include terrorism and public mischief.
