Is 2013 News Headlines causing concerns
As we enter the second month in the year 2013 we have to look back on what has been happening in the news headlines and it does read well.
We cannot forget the slaying of the 26 people in Sandy hook school in Connecticut and although we had this horrendous destruction of lives especially those of children the headlines are not allowing us to forget as each day there are other media news that is causing concern such as reported recently.
According to media report a 14-year-old boy was wounded outside a middle school Thursday afternoon (local time) and a fellow student was in custody as a suspect, authorities said. No other students were hurt.
Apparently, police swarmed Price Middle School just south of downtown Atlanta after reports of the shooting at 1:50 p.m., while a crowd of anxious parents gathered in the streets, awaiting word on their children. Students were being kept in the locked-down school some two hours after the shooting, however it is being reported that television footage showed some of them being dismissed.
The wounded boy was taken “alert, conscious and breathing” to Grady Memorial Hospital, said Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos. Atlanta Public Schools said on their website that the suspect also was a student at Price.
This is yet another indication that society must do something positive about the number of guns on our streets and in our homes and if we fail to effectively curtail the use of these weapons the legacy that we are leaving the next generation will be dire.
In other news that have been documented in the media, convicted Norwegian mass murders Right wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik, who is serving a 21-year jail sentence for killing 77 people, has complained to the Norwegian government over prison conditions akin to “aggravated torture”, his lawyer said today.
When when talk about the unmitigated gall of some people we can think about this individual who did not have any compunction in slaughtering 77 people but want a so-called easy life in prison. There is no doubt that we have to treat prisoners with humanity even when they did not afford the same humane attitudes to their victims, but to prison is there to teach individuals that if you do the crime then you are required to do the time and that it is not a five star hotel.
According to reports and for safety reasons, the 33-year-old has been kept away from other prisoners in a cell that has its own exercise yard, where he’s entitled to spend one hour each day, and he his complaining.
This is just two of the headlines that should give us cause for concerns and ensure that society effectively deal with these issues and it we do not then, we would have failed our environment and more important fail as human beings.
